What we are planning

The Shire of Harvey is developing a new Access and Inclusion Plan 2022-2026. This is a four-year plan that aspires to create an accessible and inclusive community for all people living in the Shire.

What do we need to know and why?

We want to hear from people who identify as living with a disability, and who are either a resident or visitor to the Shire of Harvey. Our primary focus is to understand: "What does access and inclusion mean to you"?

We would like to hear about your experiences, including what is working and not working in the community. We also want to hear about your ideas on how we can create an even better quality of life for people living with disability within our Shire.

What is an accessible community?

An accessible community is one where public facilities and services are available to people of all abilities. This includes:

  • Getting into buildings
  • Using footpaths safely
  • Enjoying parks and playgrounds
  • Accessing toilets and change rooms
  • Finding information in a format that is useful to them.

What is an inclusive community?

An inclusive community is one where people of all abilities feel they belong. This includes:

  • Feeling valued to participate and make a contribution to the community
  • Taking part in social events, sporting and cultural activities
  • Being able to access opportunities such as employment and volunteering.

What we do with your feedback

Your feedback will help us to:

  • Plan for better access and inclusion within our community
  • Understand and address existing barriers

Privacy

You will need to register to complete the survey online. We will not record any personal information from the survey. All your feedback is anonymous.

If you would like to continue this journey with us, you can attend our Access and Inclusion Summit on Friday, April 30 at the Leschenault Pavilion. At the Summit, you will be able to participate in our Co-Design workshop to create an accessible and inclusive community for all people within the Shire of Harvey.

We have considered access and inclusion for the Summit by:

  • Offering transportation for those with access needs
  • Offering an Auslan Interpreting service
  • Offering other accessible formats of information at request
  • Providing a fully accessible venue with 3 accessible toilets, a lift and entry ramp
  • Live streaming the talks and providing opportunities for people to participate remotely both during and after the Summit.

To register your interest, please contact Nicole Andrijevic on (08) 9729 0308 or email nicolea@harvey.wa.gov.au
