System of Representation Review

In accordance with Clause 7(1) of Schedule 2.2 of the Local Government Act 1995, the Shire of Harvey is hereby giving public notice advising that a review of its system of representation is to be carried out and invites public participation in the review.

The Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries announced a number of proposed local government reforms. Part of these reforms aims to introduce new requirements for the election of the Shire President, a reduction in Council numbers and the introduction of optional preferential voting.

Although the review of the Shire’s representation will assess the number of elected members, members of the community can raise other matters in relation to the system of representation in the Shire. This assessment will take into account the views of the community and outline any other matters that may be considered.

You can view the Discussion Paper from the documents on the right-hand side of the screen or obtain a hard copy from the Shire's Administration Centres in Australind and Harvey.

Public Submissions are invited for a period of six weeks, closing on Friday, 16 December 2022 and can be submitted via the survey link below, emailed to shire@harvey.wa.gov.au or by post PO Box 500, Harvey, WA 6220.
